The self-welding butyl tape has a high adhesive strength, and boasts excellent insulating and moisture-resistant properties. The tape has good compatibility with metals, concrete, masonry, wood, glass, hard PVC, bitumen and painting systems. The very good adhesion properties enable a number of combinations in sealing systems. Ideally suited for connecting seams and bonding vapour barrier films, overlap seals for assembly parts in the automotive and roof area, façade and equipment construction, in the furniture and interior construction industry, in sanitary and electrical installation as well as all similar applications such as involving grommets, sleeves, cable end caps or similar components.
The surfaces to be sealed must be dry, capable of bearing load and free from grease and dust. The application temperature should not be below +5°C. Absorbent and porous surfaces should be pretreated with Würth butyl/bitumen primer. In order to obtain good initial adhesion to the substrate, the tape should be pressed against the substrate with a pressure roller and smoothed. Folds and wrinkles are to be avoided. Butyl has a "cold flow" tendency (flow characteristic of the tape). Therefore, the tape should always be fitted with a press-on profile to prevent the seal from slipping as a result of, for example, the weight of snow or backed-up water. Using excessive contact pressure on the profile will nevertheless cause the sealing compound to be "pushed out". Also, never compress the butyl tape to the zero point (use the supplied disc as a spacer)!
